Pitfalls & Sinkholes

What Any Family Law Practitioner Must, But Doesn’t Know

Panel 1: The Global Couple & Premarital Agreements: Legal and Cultural Issues to Consider

Moderator: Elie Seyedian, Esq.

Speakers:
Honorable Amy Pellman, Los Angeles Superior Court
Lynetter Berg Robe, Esq., CFLS
Noelle Haley, Esq., CFLS

Traditions and culture shape the expectations of the parties prior to entering into the marital relationship. Family law practitioners who overlook the impact of culture cannot adequately and competently protect their clients’ expectations. Family law Courts often struggle between respecting the parties’ traditions and creating a fair outcome.

Our esteemed panelists will assist family law practitioners in navigating through cultural
gridlocks, and in incorporating traditions into premarital agreements at the drafting stage. They will discuss issues that frequently arise in international premarital relationships, such as the validity and recognition of their premarital agreement domestically and abroad, choice of law provisions, the protection of foreign assets, the execution of an Affidavit of Support for immigration purposes, and cultural grounds for annulment of the marriage.
